History

The spark for Jacaranda was created back in 2003 when a friend showed me an “interesting” carpet sample that had landed on his desk. “It’s unusual, handmade in India and great value for its quality, but sadly not right for my business” he said.  I contacted the supplier, flew to India within the week and ordered my first container of carpet.

A company had to follow quickly, which I named Jacaranda after the trees that lined the streets of New Delhi with beautiful purple flowers on that first visit. Flowers that reminded me of the Jacaranda tree that dominated the Cape Town garden of my childhood.

Richard Meager , Founder and joint managing director

Jacaranda has grown fast

I was still working from home in 2005 when I gained my first employee Chris Lakin, now our Operations Director.  In 2006 my wife Lucy joined the company officially although her marketing expertise has been important from the beginning.  Today Lucy and I run the company together as joint Managing Directors.

In 2009 we exhibited abroad for the first time, in Paris, now export is a very important part of our business. In 2010 we opened a showroom in London’s Design Centre Chelsea Harbor, do visit us on the 2nd floor of the south dome.

In 2012 we moved to a purpose built office and warehouse in Northamptonshire

We have already had to extend the warehouse and continue to thrive with a great team of staff and an excellent network of loyal customers across the UK and distributors in over 40 countries throughout Europe and as far afield as Canada and the USA.
