Rug Competition at KLC

DÉCOUVRIR

20.11.2023

We are passionate about giving opportunities to interior designers of the future, so it was with great excitement that we launched our hand-tufted rug design competition at KLC School of Design during Focus/23 at Design Centre Chelsea Harbour.

KLC School of Design is considered one of the UK’s leading colleges for the study of interior design. With over 40 years of experience delivering industry leading courses, their enviable location in the Design Centre Chelsea Harbour and extensive links within the industry gives students exposure to the latest design inspiration and unrivalled opportunities for their future careers.

Our competition (run in conjunction with GoodWeave International) gives students of KLC the opportunity to design a hand-tufted rug that embraces colour trends for Summer 2024. The goal is to give up-and-coming student designers exposure within the incredible industry we work whilst also educating them on the artisan craft of hand-tufting and the crucial work of GoodWeave.

The Launch

We were delighted to be joined by renowned interior designer, Jo Hamilton and Fay Handley of GoodWeave UK.
Jo inspired students with an exclusive insight into her design process and demonstrated how she builds show stopping rugs into her interior schemes.

Fay shared an insightful look into the reality of child labour in the weaving industries and how GoodWeave works, with partners such as Jacaranda, to eradicate child, forced and bonded labour within supply chains.

Jacaranda’s Design Manager, Angela Henson rounded off the talk giving students a detailed understanding of the creative possibilities in hand-tufted rugs.

The competition is open to all online and onsite students of the Interior design BA Hons and Diploma courses at KLC School of Design. The winning student will work with Jacaranda to select colours and have their rug design made into a GoodWeave certified rug for them to keep.
Judging will take place by our hand-picked panel in January 2024 and the winner will be announced shortly after.
